What is the Suresh Shahasane Signification Method?
The Suresh Shahasane signification method is one of a number of practitioner-specific refinements that have grown up around Krishnamurti Paddhati. It is not a separate astrology: it uses the same nakshatra framework, the same sub division and the same underlying idea that a planet acts for its star lord. What a scheme of this kind contributes is a particular way of ordering and filtering the significators that the standard KP procedure produces.
It is worth being plain about this at the outset. Variants like this circulate within the KP community as one teacher's working refinement rather than as a canonical, universally agreed system, and published descriptions of them differ in detail. Stellar Transit implements the scheme as an alternative view on the same chart, so you can compare its ranking against the plain KP list rather than replacing one with the other.
The KP Foundation It Builds On
Every KP-derived signification scheme starts from the same three-lord description of a planetary position. The zodiac is divided into 27 nakshatras of 13 degrees 20 minutes, each owned by one of the nine grahas in the repeating Vimshottari order — Ketu, Venus, Sun, Moon, Mars, Rahu, Jupiter, Saturn, Mercury. Each nakshatra is subdivided into nine subs in the same order, sized in proportion to the Vimshottari year-lengths: Ketu 7, Venus 20, Sun 6, Moon 10, Mars 7, Rahu 18, Jupiter 16, Saturn 19, Mercury 17.
From this come the three working rules that every variant shares:
- A planet primarily signifies the houses of its star lord, by that star lord's occupancy and ownership.
- The planet's own occupancy and ownership are secondary contributions.
- The sub lord is the deciding agent for whether a matter promised by the star lord is actually granted.
Star lord and sub lord for each planet are listed on the planetary positions page, and the same breakdown for the twelve cusps on the cuspal chart.
Standard Significator Derivation
The conventional KP order for the significators of a house runs in four levels, strongest first:
- Planets tenanting the nakshatras of the occupants of the house.
- The occupants themselves.
- Planets tenanting the nakshatras of the lord of the house.
- The house lord itself.
Occupancy is placed above ownership, and the planet standing in another's star above the planet it points to, because in KP the agent — not the principal — is what actually produces the result. Rahu and Ketu are handled separately, signifying through their star lord, their sign lord and any conjoined planet, which often lifts them to the head of the list.
What a Refinement Like This Changes
The recurring problem with a raw four-level list is that it is too generous. In a typical chart most of the nine grahas end up connected to any given house through one route or another, which makes timing imprecise. Refinements within the KP tradition generally attack that problem along a few familiar lines:
- Tightening star lord dominance — giving the star lord's house portfolio still more weight relative to the planet's own placement, so that weak self-significations fall away.
- Re-ranking the nodes — deciding whether a node should displace the planets it represents, stand alongside them, or be read only when its agency is otherwise unambiguous.
- Filtering contradictions — dropping planets that signify both a house and the house that negates it, on the grounds that they cannot be relied upon either way.
- Sequencing promise and timing — settling the cusp sub lord question first, and only then using the significator list to find the period.
These are the general shapes such refinements take. The precise thresholds, and how strictly each rule is applied, vary between implementations and between the sources that describe them — so a list produced here may legitimately differ from one produced by another program claiming the same method. Treat Stellar Transit as one careful reading of the approach, not as the last word on it.
Using the Result
However the list is ordered, it is used the same way. Group the houses relevant to your question — 2, 7 and 11 for marriage, 2, 6, 10 and 11 for employment, 4 and 11 for property — and find the planets that signify that group. Then read across to the Vimshottari dasha timeline and look for a stretch in which the dasha, bhukti and antara lords all appear on the list. Agreement at all three levels is what marks a genuine window; agreement at only one is usually noise.
Because sub divisions can be a few minutes of arc wide and the ascendant advances about one degree every four minutes, results here are sensitive to birth time and to the ayanamsha chosen for the sidereal conversion. KP practice conventionally uses the KP ayanamsha, and switching to another value will move borderline sub lords.
Frequently Asked Questions
Is this a different system from KP?
No. It is a refinement operating inside KP, using the same 27 nakshatras, the same nine proportional subs and the same star-lord principle. What differs is the weighting and pruning applied to the significator list after it has been derived. If you know KP, nothing here will be unfamiliar in its foundations.
Why does this list differ from the plain KP significator list?
Because refinements of this kind exist precisely to shorten and re-order the standard list. A planet that appears mid-table in the plain KP ordering may be promoted, demoted or dropped once star lord dominance is tightened, nodes are re-ranked and contradictory significators are filtered out. The underlying connections are identical.
Which list should I trust when they disagree?
Treat the plain KP list as the baseline and the refined list as a second opinion. Where both point to the same planets for a matter, the conclusion is well supported. Where they diverge, check the cusp sub lord for the promise and, if you are judging a question rather than a birth chart, cross-check against the ruling planets of the moment of judgement.
Do all implementations of this method agree?
They do not, and it is better to know that than to assume otherwise. Practitioner-specific KP variants are transmitted through teaching and published articles rather than a single fixed specification, so software implementations differ in the details of ranking and filtering. Use the results as a considered reading of the approach, and verify important conclusions against the underlying star and sub lord data.
